THE SHAWLS

Jamawar is a weaving tradition, and paisley — buta, or kairi — is the motif it became known for: the curved teardrop that repeats and interlocks across a field. Both shawls here carry it, and they carry it differently. On the blue, the paisley runs edge to edge in cream, gold and pale green over teal, so the whole cloth is pattern. On the red, the ground is left plain scarlet and the pattern is gathered into a deep border, so it reads quieter until it is folded and the border shows.

That difference is the reason they work as a pair. Two people with two different tastes both get something they would have chosen, and neither of them is holding the spare.

Returns

Check with us on the recommended cleaning method before washing either shawl — it depends on the fibre and we would rather confirm it for your pair than have you follow a general instruction. Store both shawls folded and dry, away from direct sunlight, which fades a dyed ground faster than wear does. Hand wash the wine glasses and dry them upright; do not pour boiling liquid into cold glass. Keep the lid on the box and it goes on holding the set.
